In order to further strengthen the exchange and cooperation between Zhangye Geopark and Linxia Geopark, and explore how to develop the geoheritage protection, construction, scientific research and popular science education. On June 15, 2020, two geoparks signed agreements of cooperation, Linxia Geopark became the fifth sister geopark of Zhangye Geopark.
The strata exposed in Colorful Hills and Binggou Danxia areas of Zhangye Geopark were formed in the early Cretaceous. In the same period, reptiles represented by Huanghetitan Liujiaxiaensis with a length of about 20 meters were roaming in Linxia Geopark about 630 kilometers away from Zhangye, leaving behind numerous animal fossils. The two geoparks are closely linked by different geoheritage related to the two regions. The combination of the Huanghetitan fossils origin in Liujiaxia and Colorful Hill geoheritage in Zhangye not only provides comprehensive and powerful scientific materials for the study of the restoration of Cretaceous paleogeography and paleoenvironment in this region, it is also a natural link between the two parks in interactive publicity, research sharing, discussing the protection and development of geoheritage, cultivation of talents and other aspects.
