From October 9th to 16th, 2025, the 9th International Training Course on UNESCO Global Geoparks was held in Yunyang, Chongqing, which was hosted by Global Geoparks Network (GGN), UNESCO Global Geoparks Secretariat, and organized by China University of Geosciences Beijing, Yunyang UNESCO Global Geopark. Zhangye UNESCO Global Geopark attended the Training Course and had a profound discussion with experts and scholars from Greece, France, and China about the core topics of Geoparks’ management and operation. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Zhang Jianping, the vice chair of GGN, the member of the UNESCO Global Geopark Council, and the Professor at China University of Geosciences Beijing.

Artur SÁ, the Chair of the Global Geoparks Network; Nikolaos Zouros, the Secretary-General of the Global Geoparks Network; Kristof Vandenberghe, the Secretary-General of the Secretariat of UNESCO Global Geoparks; Jin Xiaochi, the Member of the Executive Board of the Global Geoparks Network, the Coordinator of the Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network, and the Researcher at the Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences; and Lei Yalin, Party Secretary of China University of Geosciences Beijing, delivered speeches in person or via video link respectively.



With the theme of “Management, Activities, and Networking”, the training course lasts for seven days, and covers indoor thematic lectures, panel discussions, and field investigations. Various experts from the GGN, the UGGp Council, and many domestic UGGps conducted teaching around themes including strategies of conservation and sustainable utilization of geoheritages, innovation of geoscience popularization and construction of public participation mechanism, and integrated development route of natural and cultural resources.



During the training course, Zhangye Geopark delivered a presentation with the theme of "Practice the Philosophy of UGGp, Amplify the Value of Geoharitage", sharing its innovative achievements, practical experiences, and challenges.
