Zhangye UNESCO Global Geopark Supports the Eco-Protection Achievement Exhibition with Rare Specimens

On August 19th, the “A Barrier Fosters All Things Growing”-Qilian Mountains Eco-Culture and Eco-Protection Achievements Exhibition was launched.

The exhibition is divided into five chapters, displaying more than 300 precious exhibits, including rubbings of Qilian Mountains rock paintings, specimens of animals, plants, and fossils. Among them, a series of precious specimens are loaned from Zhangye UGGp Museum, including 5 specimens of representative wild animals of the Qilian Mountains, such as rock goats, wolves, red deer and red mallards, as well as 22 specimens of rocks and minerals such as limonite and malachite, and paleontological fossils, such as trilobites and coral polyps. This loan exhibition aims to help the public intuitively understand the biodiversity of the Qilian Mountains and the heritage of its eco-culture through this inter-museum display. As a critical window for eco-culture spreading in the Hexi Corridor, Zhangye UGGp has continuously improved its specimen system in recent years.

By 2025, the Zhangye UGGp Museum has collected more than 200 rock and ore specimens, over 20 paleontological fossil specimens, nearly 60 wild animal specimens, and over 170 wild plant specimens, gradually establishing a comprehensive system that covers geology, paleontology, and wild animals and plants. This cooperation with the Zhangye Museum is another important attempt of Zhangye UGGp following the mutual exhibition with the Qilian Mountains National Park Nature Museum. It marks the continuous deepening of Zhangye Geopark in promoting the co-construction and sharing of eco-cultural resources, advancing science popularization, and eco-civilization education.
