From October 9th to 15th, 2024, the 8thInternational Training Course on UNESCO Global Geoparks Management andDevelopment was held in Xiangxi UNESCO Global Geopark. Representatives ofZhangye UNESCO Global Geopark attended the course.
The course this year is sponsored by theGlobal Geoparks Network and the UNESCO Global Geoparks Secretariat, and jointlyorganized by China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and Xiangxi UNESCOGlobal Geopark. The attendants of the course are UGGp representatives from China,Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, and other countries.
Under the theme of UNESCO Global Geoparksand Sustainable Development, the course conducted targeted and well-roundedtraining and discussion on UGGps’ management and development, ideas andcriteria, procedures of evaluation and revalidation, and matters needingattention.
The representative of Zhangye UGGp made areport on its first-four-year management. Representatives from Geoparks ofXiangxi, Hong Kong, Zhijindong Cave, Zigong, Changbaishan, Mt. Siguniang, andNorth Riyadh shared their experiences.
On the fourth day of the Training Course,also the 35th International Day for Disaster Reduction, NAKADA Setsuya, Chairof UNESCO Global Geopark Council, presented a report on “empowering the nextgeneration for a resilient future” and organized a group discussion to promotegeoparks’ understanding of each other.
Experts and other geoparks representativesaffirmed Zhangye geopark’s management, development, geoheritage conservation,and local economy. They also expected that Zhangye Geopark would be more activein international networking and share its experiences and high-valued resourceswith the world.
