Zhangye national geopark museum covers an area of 20,000 square meters, with a construction area of 7,300 square meters and a total investment of 112 million yuan. It was completed and opened on August 1st 2015. The exhibition hall of the museum is divided into interpretation hall of geomorphology, grand view hall of geomorphology, 4D cinema, fantastic geomorphology hall, temporary exhibition hall and VR science popularization experience hall. It is a steel-mixed space truss structure and integrates five functions of collection, protection, research, exhibition and propaganda.
Zhangye Geopark Museum is a professional museum with 80 specimens of various rocks, minerals and paleontology. The exhibition hall uses words, pictures, sound, light and electricity equipment to introduce the formation and characteristics of colorful hills in Zhangye National Geopark, other red-bed landforms in China and the world, and the geological and geomorphological types and mineral reserves of Zhangye geopark, answered the tourists’ questions and played a better role in science popularization education and propaganda of the geological park. Since its opening in August 2015, it has received 600,000 visitors, with a maximum of 16,000 visitors per day. It has provided explanatory services for government, schools and other visiting groups, and won unanimous praise from all walks of life. It has been rated as "History Reproduction Engineering Museum" and "Characteristic Science Popularization Base of Gansu Province".
